Kailash K Shrestha (b. 1986, Dolakha, Nepal) is a contemporary Nepali painter and cultural leader whose work pulses with political satire, social empathy, and deep-rooted community fellowship
Shrestha’s long-running Phantasmal series stands out: a satirical mixed-media exploration of political movements and societal dynamics in Nepal, blending newspaper clippings, photographs, paintings, and experimental textures to weave critique with poetic depth
Beyond the canvas, Kailash founded Artudio, a transformative center for contemporary visual arts in Kathmandu. Through Artudio, he has taken art beyond gallery walls, launching community residencies like Dolakha Album, public street art installations like Ekatako Bhitta: The Wall of Unity, and arts education through projects such as Rivers of the World in partnership with the British Council
In 2015, after the devastating earthquake, he launched Healing Through Art, a hands-on initiative that led to the creation of a community art centre in his hometown, bringing creative healing and resilience to a region in need
Shrestha is a recognized voice in contemporary South Asian art. He’s one of the first Nepali recipients of the Australian Himalayan Foundation Art Award, and his works have been featured in major exhibitions including the Kathmandu Triennale, Asian Art Biennale, and Kathmandu International Art Festival
Kailash K Shrestha and AELIG
AELIG had the privilege of showcasing Kailash K Shrestha’s work during “In Between the Unseen”, a duo exhibition at HeLai Art Gallery in Zurich, co-organized with the Swiss Nepal Chamber of Commerce and curated by Miao “Emmo” Ho. His paintings, which open dialogues between abstraction and lived experience, found a new dimension on our zero-energy E-Paper frames.
By displaying his art digitally while preserving the depth, texture, and presence of his acrylic canvases, we highlighted how AELIG bridges the gap between tradition and innovation. Just as Kailash builds spaces for reflection and imagination through his practice, our frames bring those visions to life in the digital age.
We are proud to feature Kailash K Shrestha among the distinguished artists whose work we present, and we look forward to future moments where his art and AELIG’s technology continue to resonate together.
